Frequently Asked Questions...
Bricks and boards don't hit back?
Why do people throw out that statement like it is going to be someone's entire model of training?
Heavy bags don't hit back either, but they are in every boxing gym in the world.
If you do it right and build up slowly and use liniments, what is the danger in brick breaking.
Everyone I know that can't loves to say bricks don't hit back, but I say, neither does someone on the other end of that punch.
So if you train with target mitts and spar a lot, how is it useless to break bricks?
Stop with the arthritis, your doing it wrong.
Duke Nukem Jr, if you or anyone you know has ever been knocked off your feet by a heavy bag, please give up all forms of athletics now, don't even pick up a yo yo for all sake...
Answer:
In my 31 years of experience the people that make statements like that including the ones that state traditional arts such as Karate, Aikido, Judo and so do not work, or not effective are just morons or tools who self promoted themselves to some rank that they never actually learned.
I am not big into breaking but I do appreciate the science involved as well as the technical aspects of doing so. Regardless I was required to break 10 bricks with a knife hand for my 8th dan test and I did so gladly...not even knowing if I could. It was a great feeling to do so but I don't practice breaking on a regular basis.
I do like your anology about the heavy bags as well. That was a unique twist.
One thing I will say is that the world, right now, is filled with people who trained for a few months to a few years in some martial arts class but never stuck with it long enough to truly learn the value of them. This has created an entire society filled with ignorance towards authentic martial arts training and how effective it is in the hands of highly qualified student / black belt / master. But to each their own and if you are a true martial artists then you have no reason to prove anything to some one who is just to ignorant to learn.
