Asics Gel Kayano 16 - Stability + Support Running Shoes
The Gel Kayano 16 is a top of the line stability running shoe offered by Asics. Although the show has a high price, it has many of the best features that Asics has to offer a shoe to provide comfort and support. It has separate models that are specifically for either male or female runners.
The sole of the Asics Gel Kayano 16 is slightly different from the sole found in the Kayano 15 model. The midsole provides support due to the insert of DuoMax, which is a firmer foam that is injected directly under the arch, and proceeding half of the way back towards the heel. It is noticeable in the shoe as it is a darker gray insert in the internal side of the sole. The DuoMax also stops an over pronator from collapsing inwards, and helps the runner keep a correct gait. In addition to the insert, the under arch of the shoe features Asics' Space Trusstic System, which is a piece of plastic material wraps around the midsole keeping it in place, and provides a runner a stable position from heel to toe. The heel of the Gel Kayano 16 features a set of pods which are designed to absorb shock in different manners, in different parts of the foot. These shock absorbers are dependent upon the way that a runner's foot strikes the ground.
One area of the new shoe that Asics has focused a considerable amount of attention on is the difference between men's and women's running shoes. The sole of the women's shoe is made of Solyte, a softer foam, which is located under the ball of the foot. The front of the shoe is more deeply carved in order to be more flexible. Finally, the heel is 3mm higher than the men's shoes to take pressure of the Achilles tendon.
Another feature is the asymmetrical lacing design introduced by Asics in 2009. This means that the top of the shoe follows the top of the foot in a more natural fashion for a better fit. Although there were problems with the lacing in the Kayano 15, they have been corrected for the Kayano 16. The top also features a sockliner, comfortable lining, and memory foam for both the collar and heel.
The Asics Gel Kayano 16 is a great shoe for runners who are looking for arability. It is not as lightweight as other running shoes, but has enough cushioning to make the shoe a comfortable fit.
